pit·fall /ˈpitˌfôl/
a hidden or unsuspected danger
I love taking Buzzfeed personality tests, I think they're hilarious. I take them to see if I agree with the results, or if they're far off base. One day my boyfriend told me how his friends were discussing their personality types and taking this MBTI test (link below), and I wanted to know my personality type so I quickly pulled it up to take it. It was a 30 minute test, so right off the bat I became more intrigued. From the duration alone, I could tell it's more legit than a Buzzfeed quiz. Thirty minutes later... I received the crazy accurate results...
I'm a ENFJ-- the protagonist-- a whopping 2% of the population. Not going to lie, that makes me feel unique! But it's not like the results only show your strengths, oooh no-- it shows your weaknesses too. An ENFJ's weaknesses are: Overly Idealistic, Too Selfless, Too Sensitive, Fluctuating Self-Esteem, & Struggles to Make Tough Decisions... Yikes... I thought about these for a while and tried to prove them wrong, but I know these are right. I know no one's perfect, but I'm a perfectionist. I strive to make zero mistakes, to always know what's going to happen, and to plan every possible event/ happenstance in my life. This is my personality pitfall. I'm striving for the impossible, I'm wasting energy.
God made each of us with a unique blend of traits that will aid us in fulfilling our purpose. If we use our traits in a selfish or evil way, we are only going to fall into our personality pitfall. I began to ask God to help me be able to refine my traits and to use them in the way He intended. This not only helped me grow closer to God, but also to the people in my life.
When you stop wasting energy chasing perfection, or instagram likes, you make time for what truly matters. The stronger your faith the more you realize you have a lot to work on, but God never puts you through something you can't handle. It will be tough to acknowledge your pitfalls, but once you do, you are one step closer to completing your purpose.
"The thing that is really hard, and really amazing, is giving up on being perfect and beginning the work of becoming yourself."
~Anna Quindlen
I challenge you to make the difficult decision to be truly yourself. To embrace your flaws and ask God to show you who He made you to be. I also challenge you to acknowledge what society calls your flaws and ask God to help you widdle your traits so you can use them for His glory.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10
